My Early Years In The Motor Trade
I was born into the motor trade, the son of a motorman who brought me into Ever Ready Garage when I was 10 years old. I spent every minute of free time washing and cleaning cars right up to my leaving cert. I began working in Ever Ready in 1973 as a Junior Salesperson, primarily selling Renault cars. After three years of hard work and determination, I was promoted to the senior sales team, selling Jaguar, Lotus, Citroen, Jensen, and the complete Smiths Leyland product range. During my time at Ever Ready Garage
I had the opportunity to put a Lotus Esprit in the front window of Arnott’s Department Store & Switzers Department Store, a groundbreaking achievement at the time.
In 1980 the motor trade went into a downturn, resulting in the closure of Ever Ready Garage. This prompted me to take the next step in my career, moving to the Dublin Road Motors in Dundalk, a BMW, Volvo, and Chrysler dealership. This experience shaped my future for years to come, though I had access to a large market of potential clients, my true love was the used car market.
